Manicure, Pedicure & Waxing 5N3467 QQI/FETAC Level 5

The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to work autonomously and independently to carry out manicure, pedicure and waxing treatments.
 
Who should apply:
 
Anyone interested in working in the Beauty Therapy sector.
 
Learners will be able to:
 
 
1. Discuss the importance of client care, confidentiality and professionalism, when providing treatments
 
 
2. Explain the specific hygiene precautions required for treatments
 
 
3. Describe the anatomy and physiology of the lower arm, hand, lower leg and foot
 
 
4. Describe with aid of a diagram the structures of the nail
 
 
5. Describe with the aid of a diagram the structure of the hair
 
 
6. Describe the different hair types
 
 
7. Explain, with the aid of a diagram, the hair growth cycle and the factors that affect hair growth
 
 
8. Describe the methods available for hair removal
 
 
9. Describe the main ingredients used in manicure, pedicure and waxing products and explain their effects on the skin
 
 
10. Describe the common hair and nail diseases and disorders
 
 
11. Differentiate between the different methods of sterilisation and sanitisation
 
 
12. Identify indications, contra-indications and contra-actions to treatments
 
 
13. Carry out consultations to identify suitable treatments and their objectives
 
 
14. Carry out any relevant tests required prior to treatments
 
 
15. Conduct and adapt manicure, pedicure and waxing treatments to suit the treatment area and the client’s needs within a commercially acceptable time limit
 
 
16. Provide appropriate after-care and home-care advice
 
 
17. Implement good practice with regard to health and safety guidelines when conducting treatments
 
 
18. Ensure the positioning of both client and therapist is correct for all treatments
 
 
19. Record and reflect on the results of treatments
 
 
20. Communicate and behave in a professional manner
 
21. Adhere to manufacturer’s instructions for the use of professional products.
 
 

Assessment Technique:    

Exam Theory  30%               Exam Practical   70%

The grading of the QQI/FETAC component is as follows:
 
Pass   -  50-64%              Merit  -  65-79%          Distinction  -  80-100%

              Ideal for those seeking employment in Salons, Health farms, Spas and Cruise Liners or people interested
           in working in the Beauty sector     
   
                                      
Component Certification:
Following successful completion Kilmuckridge Centre of Further Education will offer a QQI/ FETAC Level 5 component in Manicure, Pedicure & Waxing 5N3467 QQI/FETAC which is a Level 5 on the National Framework of Qualifications.
 
 
Learner Progression
Manicure, Pedicure & Waxing 5N3467 QQI/FETAC Level 5 is a component of
Beauty Therapy Level 5
Learners who successfully complete this programme may use the associated credits as a stand-alone qualification or as one component of a Major Award, with a view to moving up to the next level.
 
 
Additional Information
All training is delivered in a friendly and comfortable training centre with experienced and dedicated tutors focusing on ensuring each trainee is given every opportunity to learn the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities in order to excel in their Beauty Therapy role.
